24 year old guy professional seeks room for February 1st 3-9mons Manhattan 1700

Hello all,

I am a 24 year old guy looking for a 3- 6 month sublet in the city for $900 to $1700. This would need to be for February 1st ( give or take a few days ). I am looking for a sublet because I want to make sure the situation works out for everyone, and if it doesn’t, we both have recourse as it wouldn’t be a year-long commitment.

I will be around early tomorrow to see places - obviously its late in the game to be looking for February first but unfortunately someone canceled an agreement with me for a previously scheduled sublet.

What I'm looking for;
- Room: My own private room in an apartment, or a 1 bedroom apartment, with some flexibility on the lease terms (length of stay).
- Apartment: must have a living room or the room available must be very large, i.e. 13 by 13
- Roommates: Between the ages of 21 and 30... male or female (I’m hoping you fit into at least one of these categories :c) )
- Rent: $900 to $1700 ( not including utilities )
- Location: Must be about 10 minutes or less to a major subway ( an express line )

About me;
I recently moved in and my short term sublet is expiring. I am searching for a new place to stay on a longer-term basis. I would like to have flexibility for my sake and yours, so that if either of us is not comfortable with the living situation after some time for whatever reason, neither of us is 'stuck' with a year long lease. I am willing to sign for up to six months, hopefully with the option to renew.

I'm not sure how to describe myself exactly, but definitely not a "frat guy" and definitely not a "hipster" either (although I’m not fond of labeling people in general). Even though I hate politics I will say I am more of a liberal because I think it’s usually easier to live with people with similar ideologies.... that being said, I try my best to get along with everyone no matter what they are like, as long as they are respectful. I have a good job working in technology for a financial firm in the city. I am financially stable so you don't need to worry about me paying rent ( I have enough to cover 6-12 months of rent already saved ). I work 9-7 M-F, but like going out at least once during the week... usually for wings and a few beers. In general I try to keep the week pretty low key, focusing on some side projects when I can. I like going out to bars and gatherings on the weekends and just generally looking to meet new people in the city. I keep things fairly clean ( not a neat freak though ) and I am usually very conscious about keeping the people I live with happy ( I, unlike some of my previous roommates, can resist the urge to pee places other than the bathroom ). If you want to know more we can talk or I can give you my facebook if you think that might help you get some idea of what I am like.

Located in the East Village near Tompkins Square Park, this apartment building is perfect for someone who loves to live in a quiet, clean space (no critters!!) & super considerate, non-smoking female roomies in their mid-20s.

We were unfortunate victims of the snow storm on Dec. 19th 2009 and reached Brooklyn very late. Alex waited for us until midnight to let us in. Apartment is very comfortable and well located. The host is very courteous and accomodating. Definitely recommend. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay in Alex's flat; he was helpful and kind to let us check out at 5pm the last day. There were a few issues related with the cleanliness that have been discussed and that surely will improve in the future. Please clarify with Alex any additional fees first; we were requested to leave a $25 cleaning fee the last day that had never been agreed, and that was a bit confusing. Good luck.

Airbnb Thank you! I am so happy I found this place. I drove several hours with three of my friends to Alex’s apartment in Brooklyn and was very satisfied. Alex answered the phone every time I called and was there to greet us at the door at arrival . He answered all the millions of questions we had for him and he made sure that we felt welcome. The apartment was very nice and comfortable and is in a safe neighborhood. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

I have been accepted to the New School for Social Research and NYU to attend school this coming fall. I will be entering a Doctrol program in Psychology. I have been granted a 4 year housing allowance of $2751 per month with a 4% increase each January.
Although I haven't decided yet, which program I'll accept, I am getting a very early start on apartment hunting because I've lived in the South all of my life and have no idea what I'm getting myself into when it comes to renting in NY. I would like a safe and decent 1 bedroom or large studio apartment. I am a single female. I don't have any pets, but may like to get a cat at some point. I have a car, so parking is desirable.

I admit I have some credit issues due to the recent decline in the Florida housing market. I have always paid my bills on time ( a strict requirement in the Air Force) but a year ago when I had less than a year left on my military term, I was transferred to my surprise to Baltimore Md. So when I tried to sell my home I realized I had I lost about 80% of my home's value and I had no choice but to do a short sale which severly affected my credit. I was not able to afford rent in Baltimore and my mortgate in Florida. So unfortunately I had to make the tough decision to sell the home i loved. I am willing to provide a landlord or rental management company with proof of my good payment history up until the time of my reassignment. I also have copies of military orders showing I was forced to move during the housing crisis.
I'm grateful for having served my country and I am blessed that the military is offering to pay for my housing while I pursue my doctorate. I am a stable tenant. I am willing to do direct deposit and perhaps even pay a couple months in advance because I know alot of landlords are only concerned with credit score and not personal situations.
